Modems
Here we are going to talk about modems, There are two types of modems internal and external, The internal types go in to a PCI slot, The external types can hook up to your computer in three ways, USB port and Serial port or if you have cable then it will hook to your Nic .

PCI Modem
Lets start with internal PCI modems there the cheapest ( $15.00 to $30.00 ) they are easy to install, Just remove the side panal then remove the screw from the back expansion slot cover place the modem in the computer, Line up the card with expansion slot and the pci slot so that the connectors can be seen from the out side of your case. Then gently but firmly snap the card into the pci slot be absolutely sure the card is all the way in. Although the back plate lines up with the expansion slot, the card might not be firmly in place. ( So be sure it is! ) There's a small chance you could short out your card and your mb if the card is not in all the way. Now replace the screw that holds the card in the expansion slot and replace the side panal hook the computer back up and turn it on. Now load the drivers that came with your modem and you are ready to go. For more info on installing click Here

External Modem
Now it is time to talk about external modems they are not cheap about ( $60.00 to $180.00 ) but you don,t need to open your case to install one. There are three types of ports that these modems can be hooked up to USB and Serial or Nic = ( network port or card ) To install one of these is simple, Take the modem and put it on top of your computer or desk or ware you would like it to be, Then get the cable that came with it ( if a cable did not come with it then you will need to buy one ) and hook it to the modem and then to the port it gose to, Plug the phone or cable line to the modem. Now take the power cable that came with your modem and hook it to the modem then to the wall plug. Now turn the modem on and then turn the computer on load the drivers now you are done.
