Mainboard or Motherboard
Ok by now you have decided which processor and memory you are going to use, So now it is time for a motherboard, The mainboard or motherboard is the largest board in a computer and all other boards plug in to it, Thing like video cards , sound cards , modem , processor , memory. It is the first part in and the last part out, If the processor is the brains of a computer then the motherborad is the body .

Intel DDR & Rambus Mainboards
With that said lets start with P4 there are two types of MB for the P4 one uses Rambus memory and the other DDR, Lets start with DDR motherboard it uses ddr memory and only has two plugs, main power and video power. I think this is the best motherboard for most people, DDR memory is cheaper then Rambus and you can buy it almost any ware, This motherboard has five PCI ( the white slots ) one AGP ( the green slot ) and dual channal ddr slots, Dual channal is only used with 800MHz fsb processors all others use single channal, Most new DDR motherboard can take all three fsb speeds 400MHz, 533MHz and 800MHz processors. ( Examples ) Say you are going with a 533MHz processor and would like 512MB of memory then you will buy one stick of PC2700 at 512MB and install it in the orange slot nearest the processor, If you would like to use a 800MHz processor then you will need to buy two sticks of PC3200 at 256MB each and install them in the two orange slots. For more info on this click image. All Intel-P4 & Celeron motherboards are Socket 478. For more info on this click Here

Now for Rambus motherboards these MB uses Rambus memory witch must be used in pairs not single! So if you are going to uses 512MB of memory you will need to buy two sticks at 256MB each and install them in the first two slots, The other two slots must have the blanks that came with your motherboard install in them. Or your computer will not boot! These motherboards also have three plugs a video power, main power and the third 12v power. I do not recommend Rambus motherboards for beginners. AMD Athlon Mainboards
And now we come to AMD this is ware it gets crazy! All AMD motherboards uses DDR memory, But not the same processors AMD now has three different Sockets as you can see below for three different processors, We are going to cover the best of the three here, That is socket A because you can uses a Duron, Athlon or Athlon XP processors with this motherboard. If you uses Athlon XP porcessor at 400MHz fsb you can dual channal your DDR memory just like Intel-P4 does. For Example if I uses a Athlon XP 3200+ at 2.160GHz at 400MHz fsb and would like 512MB of memory then I will need two sticks of 256MB PC3200 DDR by doing that I can now dual channal my memory. VIA-Cyrix Mainboards
It is now time for Viacyrix as I said before the best way to buy these is in a combo, That is to say processor & motherboard together for one price, These make great office computers and are good for home if all you are going do is suff and get e-mail, They are All-in-ones that means the video and sound are onboard so you do not need to buy Video card or sound card. This is a Mercury kit they sale for about $50.00 to $75.00 1GHz setup, For more info on this click here for Image 1 and here for Image 2
